A friend of mine spent three months overthinking her first tattoo—Pinterest boards, saved Instagram posts, and even a color-coded list of ideas. She really had it all. But when it came time to book an appointment, she froze.
What if the artist didn’t get her vision? What if the studio wasn’t clean enough? What if she regretted it the second she walked out?
So we did what most people don’t think to do. We focused less on the design and more on finding the right studio. Because the truth is, a great tattoo starts with the artist and the environment, not just the idea.
If you’re thinking about getting inked, this list of the best tattoo studios in Jacksonville will help you skip the stress and go straight to artists you can trust.
How much does getting a tattoo cost in Jacksonville?
Getting a tattoo in Jacksonville typically costs from $100 to $200 per hour, depending on the artist’s experience, design complexity, and placement. Keep in mind that highly sought-after artists may charge premium rates—and for good reason.
1. East Coast Worldwide Tattoo & Piercing

Address: 8833 Perimeter Park Blvd, STE 501, FL 32216
Contact: +1 904 685 6516
Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
I’ve seen East Coast Worldwide come up quite a bit, especially among people looking for both tattoos and removals in one place.
What stood out to me is how flexible they are. You can book consultations online through Zoom, which feels convenient if you’re still figuring things out.
They also offer tattoo apprenticeships where work can be free or very low-cost. This is a nice option if you’re on a budget but still want to get inked.
Their laser tattoo removal starts at around $100 per session. That’s actually fairly affordable, especially since they use the Astanza Trinity laser and include free consultations.
East Coast also partners with several well-known brands. Also, they offer discounts for military personnel, first responders, and teachers, which is a thoughtful touch.
That said, communication can be tricky. Artists are often busy and don’t usually answer phone calls. So you’ll likely need to leave a voicemail or book a consultation to speak directly with an artist.
This is where mamas want their kids getting tattoos and piercings done
“I was a little anxious taking my son for his first tattoo. Eugene was amazing and put us all at ease. He is very professional, answers all questions carefully, and is very patient during the design process. The actual tattooing was amazing, as well. Again, Eugene went over everything and answered all questions. He is very knowledgeable and willing to share his opinions. He was locked in and precise with his work. My son was very comfortable and well taken care of throughout the entire process. The final product is fantastic! Couldn’t be happier with how it turned out! And the shop is SPOTLESS! This is where mamas want their kids getting tattoos and piercings done, for sure!
Price: $500+
Services: Fine line tattoos
Requested Style: We didn’t really know what style, per se, but Eugene guided us in the creative process to precisely what my son envisioned.
Cleanliness: SPOTLESS! Seriously.
Stylist: Eugene is amazing! We love him!”

He treated me as if it were the most important and expensive piece of work
“This is my third tattoo in Jacksonville and by far my best experience. From the moment I walked in the door to schedule an appointment, I was met with kindness. I didn’t feel as if I were a bother, no one seemed disinterested in my presence. It was a welcoming environment. It was calm, clean and inviting. The music was obnoxiously loud and wasn’t off-putting. I made a slight adjustment to my tattoo and felt nervous about it. Eugene didn’t make me feel like the change was an inconvenience. He’s suggestions and explanations made the tattoo even better. Although it wasn’t a big tattoo, he treated me as if it was the most important and expensive piece of work. Whenever I get the “ink itch” I’ll definitely be back and will be recommending this shop to everyone.
Price: $150-200
Services: Tattoos
Cleanliness: Very clean – the waiting room, bathroom and tattoo areas”

2. Black Hive Tattoo

Address: 2063 Gilmore St, FL 32204
Contact: +1 904 577 3730
Operating Hours:
- Tuesday to Friday: 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM
- Saturday to Monday: Closed
Black Hive Tattoo feels like it’s built for people who want something truly custom, rather than picking a design off the wall.
From what I’ve seen, their artists really focus on one-of-a-kind pieces. They even have walk-in hours during the week where you can stop by, meet the team, and check out exclusive designs you won’t find anywhere else.
Their hourly rate starts at about $160, which isn’t exactly cheap. But it makes sense given the level of customization and attention to detail they aim for.
I also like that they’re upfront about what they do and don’t offer. They strictly focus on tattoos, but they’ll point you to trusted places for piercings or permanent makeup if you need those.
Because of that custom approach, sessions can take longer than usual. And if you’re hoping for a one-stop shop that includes piercings, this might feel a bit limited.
He’s one of the most creative and artistically inclined people I know
“Can’t thank Matt Moore enough for just being him. Not only is he a good friend of mine but he’s one of the most creative and artistically inclined people I know. It’s been so easy and fun to bring my concepts to him and allow him to work and do his magic. Truly a gifted wizard. Couldn’t recommend him enough ❤️
Also, this is by far the nicest tattoo shop I’ve ever been too. Very comfortable setting where each artist has their own personal room where clients can have privacy during sessions. Matt has a TV on the wall in his room as well and it’s always nice being able to watch a movie or show while I get work done. The rest of the staff is great too! Extremely kind people all around. Love this place.”

It’s some of the most meaningful and beautiful work I’ve ever seen
“I’ve been going to this shop for years, and I can confidently say it’s the only place I trust for my tattoos. The environment is always welcoming, clean, and comfortable. You can feel the pride and professionalism as soon as you walk in.
The owner did my memorial sleeve for my mom, and it’s some of the most meaningful and beautiful work I’ve ever seen. The amount of care, detail, and talent that went into it meant everything to me. Every tattoo I’ve gotten here has been flawless, and the whole team consistently goes above and beyond.
If you’re looking for amazing artwork, a great atmosphere, and artists who genuinely care about their clients, this is the shop you want. I can’t recommend them enough!

3. Cleopatra Ink

Address: 1014 Park St, FL 32204
Contact: +1 904 792 0067
Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday: 11:00 AM – 9:00 AM
Cleopatra Ink Jacksonville seems to balance accessibility with high-level artistry, which isn’t always easy to find.
They welcome walk-ins, but they also offer free design consultations. This is helpful if you want something more personalized before committing.
I noticed they also run promos, like discounts tied to partnerships with local businesses. Because of this, sessions become more affordable for all clients.
What really stands out, though, is the talent. Artists like Samet Tuglu and Gulperi Galatali have earned awards for their work.
They have been recognized for their work in realism, fine line, and geometric styles. That kind of recognition usually says a lot about consistency.
They also offer piercings, so it feels more like a full-service studio.
Still, a few clients mentioned that smaller cover-ups can feel pricey, sometimes starting around $250. These prices might surprise you if you’re expecting something more budget-friendly.
Every person in there was very happy and positive
“Im very impressed with this shop! They are very professional in everything that they do. Starting with the receptionist lady who is very happy/ bubbly/ greets you when you come in; she offered me a variety of drinks while I waited for my consultation. Their waivers/ check in is through a bar code and they take cash or card payments. Consultations: done at nice office desks within the shop, they help design the tattoo right there, can already provide an exact price/ artist, and how they schedule you is organized (you get a receipt/ schedule info page that looks like an actual invoice). Next to actually getting the tattoo: you get a text message reminder the day before about your appointment. The artist I had, Samet, he did a phenomenal job!!! Exactly like the reference photo I wanted! Overall, it was the most professional, organized, talented shop I ever been to. Every person in there was very happy and positive!

Tattoo artist was very nice and did excellent work
“Had an excellent experience. I loved the Turkish coffee. Tattoo artist was very nice and did excellent work. I believe her name was Perri. I may be mispelling her name. If I get another tattoo, I will go back here and to her. My new tattoo was Maori style tattoo merged with another Maori style tattoo. It looks very nice.

4. The Ox House

Address: 353 E Forsyth St, FL 32202
Contact: +1 904 619 7693
Operating Hours:
- Monday, Wednesday to Sunday: 12:00 PM – 9:00 PM
- Tuesday: Closed
The Ox House has a slightly different vibe compared to most tattoo shops. It feels more like a creative hub than just a studio.
They offer a range of tattoo styles, from black realism to anime and more experimental designs. They’ve even been featured in events like the All Stars Tattoo Convention. That kind of exposure usually points to a strong artistic presence.
What caught my attention, though, is their private studio setup. You can rent the space for solo sessions at around $55 per hour or $200 for four hours. This actually feels pretty affordable if you’re looking for a more focused, uninterrupted experience.
The Ox House also has an in-house coffee spot, which adds to the whole “hangout and create” atmosphere.
That said, communication seems to be their weak spot. A few clients mentioned that email responses for consultations or scheduling can take a couple of days, which might be frustrating if you’re trying to book quickly.
It’s a place you can trust with your visions
“Man they get 5 stars all day every day. Just a really cool vibe throughout the building and J Rock is really a student of the art. As you can see the work is on point, but it’s a place you can trust with your visions. You may regret the ex’s name you had inked on you but you won’t regret the quality”
- Richard Cutler, Google Review
I could give the shop 7 stars
“Jrock, the owner is not a tattooer who makes your ideas come to life. He is an artist, therapist and human being who analyzes what information you provide him. He can take your ideas and create a masterpiece on your body if you let him. Great service, fast and you won’t regret your newest piece of self expression. I could give him and his shop 7 stars, I would, because I had 10 tattoos from different artists before I found this place and now I have 13 and I’m only coming back to Oxford for the rest.
Price: $50-100
Services: Tattoos”

5. Mister Tattoo

Address: 3857 Baymeadows Rd, FL 32217
Contact: +1 904 551 6683
Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday: 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Mister Tattoo is often described as Jacksonville’s go-to walk-in shop, which already gives you an idea of how it operates.
They specialize heavily in American traditional tattoos. Think bold lines, classic imagery, and strong colors. But they also offer fine line and custom work if that’s more your style.
The shop was founded by Travis Costello, who has been around the tattoo scene for years and trained under several well-known artists. His background in both tattooing and machine building adds an extra layer of craftsmanship to the studio’s identity.
From what I’ve gathered, the atmosphere is relaxed and approachable. It is ideal if you prefer spontaneous sessions over planning weeks.
But that walk-in model does have a trade-off. There’s no guarantee you’ll get a slot right away. So if you prefer a strict schedule or want to lock in a specific time, this setup might feel a bit unpredictable.
My tattoo looks amazing and the attention to detail is top-notch
“Been looking for a shop that has their heart in traditional pieces and Mister Tattoo definitely does. The space is extremely clean, which is always my top priority. My artist, Travis, was really friendly and made me feel comfortable. My tattoo looks amazing and the attention to detail is top-notch. I’ll definitely be back for my next one!
Price: $250-300
Services: Tattoo aftercare, Tattoo design, Female tattoos, Tattoos”

I can confidently say I won’t go anywhere else
“My cousin Derick and I recently got tattoos from Travis, and the whole experience was incredible. Derick is a regular here, and now I understand why—this place is top-tier.
The environment was welcoming, and the artists took the time to hear our ideas and help bring our vision to life. I’ve been getting tattooed for quite a while, and I can confidently say I won’t go anywhere else. Highly recommend!”
