I never imagined I’d look into counseling until stress started showing up everywhere—poor sleep and a heavy feeling I couldn’t quite shake. I told myself I just needed a change of routine and brushed it off.
But when problems started feeling overwhelming, I realized I needed more than self-help podcasts and meditation. Talking to a professional was the only way to move forward.
Thankfully, there are many counseling options in Jacksonville. They are experienced professionals who make the healing process safe, supportive, and judgment-free.
How much does counseling cost in Jacksonville?
Counseling in Jacksonville typically costs between $100 and $180 per session. The total costs depend on the therapist’s experience, specialization, and session length. Clients can choose between in-person or online setups, depending on the provider.

A few weeks ago, a friend mentioned how transformative the sessions at McGuire were. That led me straight to their website, and I quickly realized they really are dedicated to mental health and addiction.
What immediately caught my eye was the background of the owners, Mike and Annie McGuire. They are masters at trauma resolution, using EMDR and the NARM model to help clients work through deep-rooted issues.
Every session is intentional, whether it’s an intensive one-on-one meeting for growth and healing or part of a program tailored for specific needs.
Their Ascend program focuses on adolescents struggling with substance abuse, self-medication, and mental health. Then, the Aspire program helps teens with a primary mental health diagnosis, combining weekly therapy with family work.
It’s clear they have thought of everything to help young people find hope, balance, and resilience.
If I had to note a downside, it’s that they currently don’t offer virtual or telehealth sessions, which can make continuity of care a bit more challenging.
He taught me to recognize thinking patterns I needed to change
“Mike McGuire is an excellent counselor/therapist. I chose him because of his specialties. I needed trauma as well as substance abuse counseling. Mike understands recovery as he has successfully applied the tools we are taught to live free of substance abuse. He pursued the education required to lead his clients to discover their own path to recovery. He taught me to recognize thinking patterns I needed to change to become healthy again. I always was comfortable working through my personal Issues while in therapy. I highly recommend Mike. I’m a mature adult but he also specializes in working with young adults. They will feel safe to openly deal with the issues that brought them to seek counseling.”

He believes in providing help, advice, and relief for the entire family
“Mike has truly been a blessing for our son and the family. He relates because of his own life experiences and is able to help because of his training and education. He is always there to counsel, uplift and listen. Our son actually looks forward to going. Mike never gives up even when there are multiple layers of mental illness and substance dependency. He understands that our son’s needs are unique and complex. He’s patient, kind and empathetic not only to our son but to us as well. He believes in providing help, advice and relief for the entire family! I honestly don’t know where we would be right now without him!”

I have seen such a difference in myself over the last few months
“I started individual therapy with Jacksonville Center for Counseling a few months ago and it has been an amazingly wonderful experience so far.
As someone who has a difficult time opening up, I knew it was tremendously important for me to find the right therapist the first time. I knew myself well enough to know that if I did not have a good experience, it might take me a while to try therapy again. After much research, I decided that Paul Horn with Jacksonville Center for Counseling.
I am so grateful for Mr. Horn. I have seen such a difference in myself over the last few months and I am so happy at where I am now. Mr. Horn is compassionate. He listens to understand and challenges you to think differently. He makes you put in the work. You will benefit the most if you are open to the process, to feedback, and if you take what you learn and apply it outside of therapy and do the work.
The office is clean and organized, the staff are friendly, and scheduling is a breeze. I highly recommend Paul Horn and Jacksonville Center for Counseling.”

Sakina was able to give me/us the tools to rebuild our lives
“Couples/Individual therapy
If you have ever had a bad experience with a therapist or rude staff then Jacksonville Center for Counseling will be a breath of fresh air. The front counter staff do an amazing job making you feel comfortable through the whole process and work with your schedule needs. Sakina McCoy does an amazing job listening to you and digs deep to figureout the root of your struggling. Sakina was able to give me/us the tools to rebuild our life and celebrated our wins every step of the way. She cares about your success and not about the paycheck, she wants you to heal and not be in therapy all your life. I cannot recommend a more relaxing, soothing environment to heal then at Jacksonville Center for Counseling.”

Honest and direct, but still incredibly kind and uplifting
“Kesha has truly been a blessing to us. As someone who has been in couples counseling with her, I can honestly say she creates such a safe and welcoming space for open communication and deep self-reflection. She has a way of being honest and direct, but still incredibly kind and uplifting. Kesha doesn’t just help guide conversations between partners she also encourages you to take a deeper look at yourself and how your own experiences may be impacting the way you show up in your relationship. If you’re looking for a therapist who will lovingly challenge you while helping you grow both individually and together, I highly recommend her.”

Understanding, non-judgmental, and made me feel heard and supported
“I just want to express how truly amazing my therapist is. From the very first session, I felt a genuine connection with her. She was incredibly understanding, non-judgmental, and made me feel heard and supported. It’s rare to find someone who creates such a safe space to open up, and I’m so grateful for that. I’m excited to see where this journey takes me and how much growth and healing will come from it. I have a strong sense that this is the right step for me, and I can’t wait to continue working with her.”

I feel like I have grown into the person I want to be
“My wife and I started couples therapy a little over a year ago. The staff at Family Therapy Associates of Jax were warm, friendly, compassionate and provided a safe space for my wife and I to communicate our feelings as well as tools to help strengthen our marriage. (So much so that) We visit on a less frequent basis and I have started my own personal therapy sessions with Sarah. I feel like I have grown into the person I want to be and FTAJ has helped me on my journey. Their team has been great and I couldn’t recommend FTAJ enough!”

I can say this is a safe place
“I highly recommend family therapy associates and Rachel church to anyone who is needing or seeking therapy! I have been with them for years and it’s truly thanks to Rachel and family therapy associates I was able to really heal from my divorce, grow as a person, and really learn healthy coping strategies for dealing with not only the little things in life but the bigger moments. I know as a person it is hard to reach out and even at times be scary especially as a man. I can say this is a safe place and everyone here is willing to help their patients.”

North Florida Counseling is one of those trusted local practices that focus on comprehensive mental health and relationship support.
Most clients appreciate the initial phone consultation for scheduling and evaluation, making it easy to find the right therapist and plan.
Their counselors combine techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy while maintaining an evidence-based and person-centred approach.
I also love how upfront they are about pricing, which makes therapy less stressful. Individual and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) sessions run at $140 for an hour, while couples counseling runs at $160 per hour.
Having fees clearly laid out makes it easier for clients to decide which kind of support fits both their needs and their budgets.
Making everyone feel welcome and understood is one of their strong suits, something that almost all previous and current clients praise.
However, they don’t offer group therapy programs other than family services. Those who feel more comfortable with peers might need to seek a different provider for this setup.
I always leave therapy feeling that I’ve been heard and understood
“Choosing the right therapist is an important decision that should not be made lightly. Finding the right therapist can help one learn things about themselves that they never knew had an effect on them or even existed, which can change one’s life. I’ve worked with other therapists in the past and have lost patience in the process, myself, and my therapist. Since then I am so grateful I met Bilal, he is an amazing listener and he has earned my trust. I’ve really enjoyed working on myself with Bilal and I recommend him to anyone I know. Side note: As a transplant who is not a native to Jacksonville and a member of the LGBT community it’s important to me that my support group is well.. supportive, and understanding of my experiences. Bilal listens and understands; and has been a great resource. I always leave therapy feeling that I’ve been heard and understood, and I feel that I have been given tools that will effectively help me manage my world. I highly recommend working with Bilal!”

He has made me feel safe, heard, and understood, and I have greatly benefited from deciding to see him on a weekly visit for anxiety and general mental health and well being!!”
