We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Range of Subjects: I focused on tutors who cover everything from basic arithmetic and algebra to calculus, statistics, and SAT/ACT test prep.

Qualifications and Teaching Style: I chose tutors with strong credentials, teaching experience, and adaptable strategies for different learning styles.

Transparent Pricing: I favored tutors who clearly explain session fees and package options, with no hidden costs.

Proven Results and Review: I looked for tutors with a strong reputation in Jacksonville and consistently positive feedback from students and parents.

Personalized Support: I preferred instructors who track progress and provide guidance to help students succeed over the long term.

Math can be challenging, and falling behind with certain concepts can quickly become frustrating. Many students struggle when lessons move too fast or aren’t explained in a way that fits their learning style.

That’s where the right tutor can make all the difference. When I started searching for math tutors in Jacksonville, I wanted educators who combine knowledge, patience, and personalized strategies. The right tutor can make math understandable and enjoyable.

After reviewing dozens of options, I found tutors who consistently help students improve grades, build confidence, and truly grasp tricky concepts. These five stood out for their approach, results, and dedication.

How much do math tutors in Jacksonville charge?

Math tutors in Jacksonville typically charge between $40 and $80 per session, depending on their experience, specialty, and whether tutoring is in-person or online. Many also offer package deals or monthly plans to make learning more consistent and affordable.

With more than three decades of experience teaching mathematics at colleges and universities, Dr. T is a highly qualified instructor who holds both a Master’s degree and a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Florida State University.

That level of academic depth is evident in the range of subjects offered, from algebra and precalculus to trigonometry and the full calculus sequence (Calculus I, II, and III).

Tutoring is provided in a private, one-on-one format, which is ideal for students who need focused attention. High school, college, FLVS, and homeschooled students are all supported.

Sessions typically take place at local public libraries, including Pablo Creek and Southeast Branch, or at the UNF campus library for university students.

For those who prefer remote learning, online tutoring is available through interactive whiteboard software. After each session, students receive a PDF of the notes and worked problems, which is a thoughtful touch that makes review much easier.

Rates are $60 per hour, which is generally an affordable price for private, one-on-one math tutoring. There’s even a first-session guarantee—if you don’t feel helped after the first hour, there’s no charge.

One thing to keep in mind is that sessions are strictly one-on-one, so there aren’t discounted group classes available.

Pros

  • Over 30 years of teaching experience
  • Instructor has a Master’s and Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics
  • Wide subject coverage
  • One-on-one tutoring for all types of students
  • Flexible session locations
  • Offers online tutoring

He puts things in a way that is easy to understand

“Dr. T has been very helpful to me when it comes to understanding calculus 2. He puts things in a way that is easy to understand and shows different ways to do things so you can see which is easiest for you. He is very patient and will go as slow or as fast as you need him to and stop whenever you want to stop. I would definitely recommend him to anyone struggling with a math class because he is very advanced in everything he knows. I will be using him as a tutor in the future if I need it!!!”

Dr. T is extremely friendly and kind

“Dr. T is hands down the best math tutor I have ever had! He helped me understand and be successful in my calculus with business applications class. Dr. T is extremely friendly and kind, he explains the concepts very clearly and with ease. He creates a relaxing and productive environment to learn the math material you need to know. He truly is unlike any tutor I have experienced in the past and he is a man who is truly gifted by God at what he does. You can not go wrong with him!”

If your child needs structured, consistent math support, Mathnasium is a well-known option for many. They offer homework help and test preparations, but what stands out most is how they begin: every student receives a free diagnostic assessment.

From there, a personalized learning plan is created, along with a recommended session schedule based on your child’s specific goals.

They use the Mathnasium Method™, which focuses on helping students truly understand math rather than memorizing steps.

Tutors combine verbal explanations, visual tools, written practice, and even mental math strategies so students can connect with concepts in ways that make sense to them.

According to the company, 94% of parents report seeing improvements in their child’s math skills and overall understanding, which is encouraging.

Another plus is flexibility. Families can choose between in-center sessions or online tutoring.

One thing to keep in mind is that, because the center is part of a larger franchise system, the structure is standardized daily. Families seeking a fully customized or unconventional approach may find it overly structured.

Pros

  • Structured and consistent math support
  • Free diagnostic assessment
  • Ensures a personalized learning plan
  • Uses the Mathnasium method for better outcomes
  • Combines verbal, written, and mental strategies
  • 94% parent satisfaction
  • Provides in-center and online tutoring

Cons

  • Standardized franchise structure may feel too rigid

I have seen noticeable improvement within just two months

“Laurel has been an exceptional resource, consistently maintaining open and effective communication. Whenever I have a question or need to reschedule, she responds promptly and without hesitation. Since my son began attending Mathnasium, I have seen noticeable improvement within just two months, which has been incredibly rewarding. While some may view the program as an investment, its long-term benefits both academically and in fostering a genuine interest in mathematics are invaluable. I have no regrets about enrolling my son in Mathnasium and look forward to continuing to witness his progress.

Price Assessment: Great price”

Mathnasium is a great option for flexibility, clear communication, and reinforcing

“Exactly what we needed! My daughter had some gaps that needed attention before starting highschool. With two session a week I saw her ability and confidence grow tremendously. She has now progressed past her original goals and will be met with new ones that apply to her current needs.

I was struggling to know exactly where her difficulties in math began. Our initial assessment gave me a clear plan and guided the lessons presented to her.

Mathnasium is a great option for flexibility, clear communication, and reinforcing or  instilling solid math skills.”

A friend of mine tried the Tutoring Club for her child and had a very positive experience.

The tutors here work with students from pre-k through 12th grade, making it a good option for families seeking long-term consistency. The center is also an EMA Marketplace Provider, which makes the payment process easier.

My friend mentioned that everything starts with an academic assessment (50% off), and from there, they create a customized game plan for each student. That personalized approach was a big selling point.

While she initially signed up for math help, she liked knowing they also cover biology, chemistry, physics, and other high school subjects.

The center also offers SAT/ACT preparation and guidance through the college application process, which is a plus for older students.

Tutoring runs year-round, so it’s not just a “during school only” setup. Pricing starts at $149-$199 per month, which is affordable for structured programs.

The only thing my friend noted is that it works on a membership model, so it feels more like an ongoing commitment rather than casual, drop-in sessions.

Pros

  • Supports students from pre-k through 12th grade
  • EMA Marketplace Provider
  • Academic assessments are at a discounted rate
  • Covers multiple subjects
  • Offers SAT and ACT prep
  • Provides college application guidance
  • Year-round tutoring availability
  • Affordable monthly pricing

Cons

  • Membership model requires ongoing commitment

I’m truly grateful for the patience, support, and encouragement the team gives

“My daughter started at the Tutoring Club of Jacksonville in September, and we’ve already seen such a positive change. Her spelling and math skills have improved so much, and the biggest difference is her confidence—she feels stronger, more sure of herself, and she’s not needing nearly as much help when it comes to homework anymore.

She actually enjoys doing her work now, especially fractions, which has become her new favorite!

I’m truly grateful for the patience, support, and encouragement the team gives her every session. Watching her grow academically and feel proud of herself has been the best part. Highly recommend!

Price assessment: Reasonable price”

My son has blossomed academically

“Dana and her staff are amazing! The Tutoring Club staff are so friendly and always welcoming. They know each child by name and are aware of there skills level at all times. They make it a priority to address everyone that comes into there facility. My son academically has blossomed. When we started my son’s confidence was extremely low when it came to his school work. In just a matter of four months his confidences in his school work has boosted. The staff at Tutoring Club are consistent, professional, and focused on helping every child meet and exceed there academic goals. They are an amazing group of people, Dana Edmond (Director), Kathy, and all of the tutors.”

If you are looking for a tutoring center with a long-standing reputation, Sylvan Learning of North Jacksonville is one that many families already recognize.

Their approach goes beyond just improving grades. They focus on building academic confidence, sparking curiosity, and helping students develop a genuine love for learning.

Everything begins with the Sylvan Insight™ Assessment, which helps pinpoint your child’s exact academic level using grade-appropriate material. From there, they design a personalized tutoring plan tailored to your child’s specific needs.

For older students, there’s a free SAT or ACT practice exam to help identify where to improve their scores.

Pricing typically starts at 50+ per session for personalized tutoring and homework help, which is average for private academic support.

Additionally, ACT and SAT group classes begin at $900+, and STEM camps start at $200+. These prices are in the middle to premium range, depending on length and structure.

Even so, their referral program gives a free week of tutoring for both students, and free consultations are available anytime.

One thing to note is that they don’t offer one-on-one tutoring for students in adult education or college-level courses. So, older learners seeking targeted support may need to look elsewhere.

Pros

  • A well-known tutoring center
  • Focuses on academic confidence and love of learning
  • Free SAT or ACT practice exams
  • Available payment plans
  • Offers a referral program
  • Free consultation

Cons

  • No one-on-one tutoring for adults

I really appreciated the 1-1 feedback progress meetings to keep us in the loop

“Sylvan Learning Center on Dunn Avenue is EXCELLENT!! My brother was a Sylvan student back in the early 90’s so I knew this was the place for my child. Mrs. Meshell and the staff worked with my child for both 2nd AND 3rd grade. Our son was behind and struggling to stay on grade level for 3rd grade so we knew since we had success for 2nd grade there was no question but to go back to Sylvan. We started in January 2024 for 3rd grade in preparation for the final state test due to the new changes regarding promotion/automatic retention and with all the knowledge, tools and tips and tricks that the team compiled for our son; not only was he able to pull up his grades in the classroom AND stay on task but he was able to master both the math and reading state test (where he failed both state tests in the Fall and reading in the Winter so he only had one chance left in May) and was easily passed on to 4th grade. This is really a great center and they will work with your schedule, will work with payments and it’s just an awesome place all around. I really appreciated the 1-1 feedback progress meetings to keep us in the loop on the progress and any identifying struggles. I really appreciate this learning center.”

You can tell they love and care for the youth that they work with

“We brought my child here for some help during the summer to help her catch up for the upcoming grade.  Not only have they reinforced early skills, they have taught her new ways to read and enjoy it.  They have built her confidence which is huge because she is extremely shy.  She reads random things now that she never did before and attempts to read others.  They do a wonderful job and you can tell they love and care for the youth that they work with.”

Kumon takes a methodical approach to math that really appeals to students who thrive with structure.

Every child starts with a free assessment and, from there, receives an individualized lesson plan designed to help them master each concept before moving on.

Classes are held twice a week at the center, and students complete daily practice at home, usually for about 30 minutes. This rhythm helps build both skill and confidence over time.

One thing to keep in mind is that Kumon’s system is very structured and self-paced, so it may not suit kids looking for more interactive, discussion-based sessions.

But Haixia Li, the lead instructor, brings strong academic credentials to the table. She holds a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Sheffield and a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering.

Parents also have access to a downloadable guide to stay in the loop and support learning at home. Kumon occasionally offers discounts of up to 80%, which is a nice bonus for families getting started.

Pros

  • Uses a methodical math program
  • Structured, individualized lesson plan
  • Free assessment for all students
  • Holds classes twice a week with daily home practice
  • Parents can download a free support guide
  • Gives discounts up to $80 for new families

Cons

  • Structured program may not suit interactive learners

A great program to help your child grow scholastically with reading and math

“Kumon is a great program to help your child grow scholastically with the Reading and Math program. Ms. Li is the best, she makes you feel at home and really represents the Kumon program well. We have referred at least 3 of our friends within the first 2 months of being in the program. We love it and recommend it to everyone”

I feel very comfortable discussing my son’s progress and challenges

“This is a great Kumon franchise. My son has been attending here for about 9 months. Every teacher is very friendly, and the lead teacher Ms Li is incredibly knowledgeable and on top of everything. I feel very comfortable to discuss my son’s progress and challenges with her, and she is always happy and quick to make adjustments to the learning plan to help the kid continue to progress.”
