5 Best Animal Hospitals in Jacksonville for Every Pet Emergency

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Quality of Veterinary Care: I focused on animal hospitals known for thorough exams and strong overall treatment standards for pets.

Range of Services: I prioritized hospitals that provide comprehensive care. This includes wellness visits, dental care, and emergency services, among others.

Staff Approach and Communication: I looked for clinics where veterinarians and staff are described as attentive, compassionate, and clear when discussing treatment options with pet owners.

Facility Standards: I considered hospitals with clean and well-equipped environments that help pets feel as comfortable and safe as possible.

Reputation Among Pet Owners: I reviewed feedback from local pet owners to identify hospitals consistently praised for reliability and positive patient outcomes.

Accessibility and Convenience: I included animal hospitals with convenient scheduling, emergency availability, or flexible appointment options for busy pet owners.

Finding the right animal hospital isn’t something most pet owners think about until they suddenly need one. Whether it’s an emergency visit or ongoing treatment for a chronic condition, having a veterinary team you trust can make all the difference.

To help make the search easier, I looked into some hospitals that pet owners consistently rely on for quality care, experienced staff, and compassionate service.

I focused on places that offer strong medical support while also making pets and owners feel comfortable throughout the process.

No matter what kind of care your pet needs, these Jacksonville animal hospitals stand out for their professionalism and commitment to keeping animals healthy and safe.

How much do treatments in an animal hospital in Jacksonville cost?

Treatments in an animal hospital in Jacksonville typically cost from $50 to $100, widely depending on the type of care your pet needs. Emergency exams alone may range from thousands of dollars, depending on the condition.

If you are dealing with a serious pet emergency, BluePearl Pet Hospital is one of those places that immediately feels equipped to handle high-level cases.

I love how extensive their network is. They are considered one of the largest specialty and emergency pet hospital networks in the world, which says a lot about the scale of care they provide.

Their emergency departments operate 24/7 in most locations, and they also have intensive care units staffed around the clock. Beyond emergencies, they cover advanced specialties like cardiology, oncology, and pain management.

I also appreciate that they are backed by Mars Petcare and actively involved in sustainability programs. With the “Sustainable in a Generation Plan”, they give the company a more forward-thinking image overall.

One issue, though, is scheduling. Even with prior calls, some pet owners reported longer-than-expected waiting times before being attended to.

Pros

  • Extensive emergency and specialty network
  • 24/7 critical care services
  • Advanced medical technology and treatments
  • Strong sustainability initiatives

Cons

  • Inconsistent scheduling and wait times

I can’t thank them enough for saving my girl’s life

The ER/ICU docs were incredibly knowledgeable, professional, and caring. They talked me through every complex procedure with my golden retriever, understanding how emotional the process can be for owners. I could leave my pup overnight comforted that she would be well-loved by the technicians who were monitoring her recovery. They even thought to text me pictures throughout the night, which I was so thankful for.

They allowed me to visit and spend as much time as possible there during the 3 days of surgery and recovery. I can’t thank them enough for saving my girl’s life. Highly recommend to anyone whose pet needs emergent care.”

Our precious little girl was able to come home the very next evening

“We recently experienced a doggy emergency and brought our pup to this pet hospital. From the moment we arrived, the staff was incredibly kind and got us into a room right away. They were attentive, compassionate, and kept me informed the entire time while my dog was being examined in the back.

She stayed overnight for observation, and I was so relieved to wake up to a thoughtful text update from the nursing staff letting me know she was feeling better. Our precious little girl was able to come home the very next evening.

We are extremely satisfied with the care she received and truly grateful for the tender love and attention shown by the entire team. I can’t thank them enough for taking such wonderful care of our dog during a stressful time

Price assessment: reasonable price

Services: Large animals”

Coastal Veterinary Hospital & Pet Resort is the kind of place built for convenience as much as veterinary care.

Instead of only focusing on medical treatment, they combine wellness services, boarding, dog grooming, and urgent care under one roof. This can save pet owners a lot of time and hassle.

They have been serving Jacksonville since 1990, so there’s already a long history behind the practice. One of the Veterinarians, Dr. Ross Griffith, has been practicing locally for years after completing the training at Oklahoma State University.

Coastal offers routine wellness exams, surgery, and dental cleanings, among many others. This is why many see them as a practical option for both preventive and ongoing care.

What really gave me a positive impression, though, is their connection with organizations like Jacksonville Humane Society and Safe Animal Shelter. It shows involvement beyond the clinic itself.

One concern some raised was the lack of additional diagnostic testing in certain cases. They felt more thorough evaluations may have been needed, but weren’t provided.

Pros

  • Offers boarding and grooming services
  • Wide range of wellness and urgent care services
  • Active involvement with local animal organizations

Cons

  • Limited diagnostic testing

Felt extremely confident and reassured

After ingesting a LOT of chocolate, I rushed my dog to an ER vet. A few days after, he started to have major GI issues. Being a new resident of Jacksonville, I had no primary care vet on hand for my guy so the ER recommended Coastal. They took him in day of, did a thorough assessment and provided a solid treatment plan. I left the vet feeling extremely confident and reassured that my dog would be okay which went a long way (given the severity of his case). He is still in recovery but since ingesting chocolate a week and a half ago, he’s never been better! Dr. Reardon and her team were awesome during his care there, following up with me every couple of days to check in on his progress.”

Prompt and courteous care

“Our precious 11 yrar old cat presented with her limping and her front paw pads were swollen. Dixie is totally indoor kitty. The care received was prompt and courteous.  Dixie was diagnosed with basically auto immune and spongy paw.  A shot of steroids and we are waiting on call for a continuous medication. She is resting comfortably. We recvd a follow up call the following day.

Price assessment: Reasonable price”

Something is reassuring about a veterinary hospital that has been around for decades, and River City Veterinary Hospital definitely has that advantage.

Since 1960, they have been providing care to pets in Jacksonville. This means they bring over 65 years of experience to the table.

While they now mainly operate through appointments, they still accept emergencies and walk-ins, provided owners call ahead first. That flexibility can make a huge difference when unexpected situations happen.

The hospital has also earned recognition from Jacksonville Magazine and ThreeBestRated.com, including being named one of the area’s best veterinary clinics.

On top of that, Dr. David Qualls has special interests in dermatology, ophthalmology, and behavior. He also has expertise in nutrition and laser surgery, giving the clinic a more well-rounded feel.

Unfortunately, the hospital is not a 24-hour facility, so overnight emergencies would need to be directed to another hospital.

Pros

  • More than 65 years of experience
  • Recognized by local publications
  • Accepts urgent and emergency cases

Cons

  • Not available for overnight emergencies

I was so impressed by the welcome my dog and I received

I was so impressed by the welcome my dog & I received when I saw that my dog’s name(Buddy) was on a welcome sign outside the clinic before we even stepped into the clinic, that was awesome! Then we met an extremely friendly, attentive staff & a  wonderful DVM Dr. Morilla. The prices are very reasonable,  the clinic very clean! My dog although somewhat nervous was not frightened by anyone that handled him. Kudos to them all! I will definitely continue  making my 1hr.trip from Palm Coast to have services provided by this wonderful staff and highly recommend this hospital to anyone that needs pet services to River City Veterinary Hospital on Herschel St.

Price assessment: Great price”

The office was beautiful and clean

“LOVE LOVE LOVE the way all interacted with not only me but my pups as well! Got on eye level with them and while that may not mean much to many it certainly means a lot to me and mine! Very kind, very nice and patient! The office was beautiful and clean and smelled just the same as it appeared! I was hesitant going there knowing what that office was years ago but I’m very delighted and satisfied with this staff being my pups vets! Thank you so much!”

First Coast Veterinary Specialists & Emergency seems especially geared toward pet owners dealing with more critical or advanced medical situations.

From the moment I looked into their services, it was clear that emergency medicine is a major focus there.

They have been operating since 2015 and provide 24/7 emergency care alongside specialized services. These include orthopedics, neurosurgery, and more.

What really caught my attention, though, is how advanced their equipment is. They have in-house CT scans, ECG monitoring, and a fully equipped ICU. It allows them to handle complex cases without constantly referring patients elsewhere.

Another feature I genuinely like is their online pharmacy. Aside from medications, they also offer pet food and flea prevention products that can be delivered directly to your home through Vetsource.

However, communication appears to be an area that could improve, as some owners mentioned delayed updates while their pets were being treated.

Pros

  • 24/7 emergency availability
  • Offers specialized veterinary treatments
  • Convenient online pharmacy and delivery options

Cons

  • Delayed communication updates

The staff always makes you feel like you are at home

I maybe a little biased but there’s no better place to take your babies!! This hospital is not only a clinic but the staff always make you feel like you’re at home. Back in December after my wife and I moved we brought our boy in to get looked at for potential blockage. The team has gone above and beyond to make sure my boy was well cared for and it’s nice to have a vet that takes your babies and treat them like their own! I’m glad they told us about affordable CareCredit and accommodations that we needed especially this being so out of the blue. Thank you to this staff for continually making us happy clients♥️ 1 million/10 stars if I could because that night could’ve ended differently had it not been for them.”

Everyone we interacted with was so compassionate

“On 10/13/25 I made the hardest decision of my life…we called First Coast around 4:30 in the morning for euthanasia my five year old cat Nami. She had received a terminal cancer diagnosis elsewhere just 3 days prior, and had declined significantly in that time. First Coast Vets was so amazing and kind when taking care of my sweet girl. Everyone we interacted with was so compassionate and understood the depth of the pain we were feeling. We received a kind letter in the mail afterwards signed by the whole staff wishing us condolences. Thank you first coast vets for taking away Nami’s pain, and allowing her to pass peacefully with dignity, I will never forget your kind words and actions. Thank you for helping my baby when I couldn’t anymore ❤️”

Springfield Animal Hospital gave me the impression of a clinic that focuses heavily on long-term pet wellness rather than simply treating illnesses as they come up.

One thing I found interesting is how their wellness program adjusts recommendations based on a pet’s breed, age, lifestyle, and environment. Instead of applying the same care plan to every animal, they tailor strategies to each patient individually.

The clinic also handles a broad range of services, including emergency care, dental work, and routine wellness visits.

They even provide services that not every animal hospital offers, like microchipping and end-of-life care. This makes them more comprehensive overall.

Dr. Nikolay Nikolov’s experience treating serious conditions is another reassuring factor, especially for owners dealing with chronic or complicated health concerns.

I also appreciate the educational articles available on their website for pet owners wanting to learn more.

The biggest drawback is pricing, since several clients mention that services can become expensive.

Pros

  • Personalized preventive wellness approach
  • Offers microchipping and end-of-life services
  • Helpful educational resources for owners

Cons

  • Higher pricing than some competitors

I can confidently say they continue to exceed expectations

I’ve been a client of Dr. Nick for over 20 years, and I can confidently say they continue to exceed expectations. Their new location is beautiful, modern, and equipped with the latest technology, which really shows their commitment to providing top-quality care.

Dr. Nick is exceptional—knowledgeable, compassionate, and always takes the time to explain things. You never feel rushed, and he truly cares about both pets and their owners.

The staff is equally wonderful: friendly, professional, and incredibly helpful from check-in to follow-up. It’s such a relief to know my pets are in such capable hands.

Highly recommend this clinic to anyone looking for outstanding veterinary care!

Price assessment: Great price”

Attentive, kind, and knowledgeable staff

“Attentive, kind and knowledgeable vet, techs and staff. Dr Nick is one in a million – expertise, without the no sense gimmicks! Bonus – brand new, spotless clean facility. Such a big relief to resume our pet care with this gem of a vet.”
