Curriculum Quality: We evaluated the teaching frameworks each school uses to build early academic skills. Programs must offer structured lessons that balance play and core learning.

Safety and Accreditation: Checking state licenses and voluntary accreditations was a top priority for our list. Facilities must maintain secure entry systems and clean learning environments.

The Goddard School relies on an innovative Wonder of Learning framework that smoothly combines natural curiosity and solid academic foundations. They put a strong focus on social-emotional growth through hands-on projects and activities.

The teachers here create custom lesson plans, helping each child learn at their own pace. This makes the activities feel purposeful and connected to each child’s early development.

We’ve even learned that the school has earned Green Apple Accreditation, reflecting care standards that go beyond state requirements.

However, the primary teacher currently holds a temporary credential, and the center often has waitlists, which can make immediate enrollment difficult.

Even so, they remain a strong choice among preschools in Jacksonville for helping kids prepare for first grade.

Pros

  • Exceeds state childcare benchmarks
  • Focuses on social-emotional skill building
  • Dedicated kindergarten preparation program
  • Offers 11 full hours of daily coverage

Cons

  • Primary educator holds temporary credential

Arlington Kindergarten brings over seven decades of proven early childhood experience to the local community. They utilize the rigorous ABEKA curriculum to build strong academic basics in reading and math.

The facility maintains a full care continuum for one-year-olds up to first graders. This unbroken progression allows kids to grow comfortably in a familiar environment.

They even provide direct bilingual support so Spanish-speaking parents feel completely welcome. Plus, eligible families can enjoy a tuition-free voluntary prekindergarten program.

Now, while the tight-knit setting is great, the school only teaches up to the first grade. You’ll need to find a new primary school fairly early in your child’s education.

The tuition-free core hours are also quite brief, meaning working parents must pay for extended care to cover the whole day.

Pros

  • Decades of early childhood experience
  • Strong reading and math foundations
  • Bilingual support for Spanish-speaking families
  • Tuition-free VPK program available

Cons

  • Limited grade continuum
  • Brief tuition-free core hours

I can’t say enough amazing things about this school

My daughter has enjoyed being part of the Arlington Kindergarten family for almost 8 years. She loves it there and always has a great time! When I say family I really mean it, even if you’re not at your best they will always be there for you and your children. I can’t say enough amazing things about this school. You would be lucky to have your child learn from these outstanding teachers!!!

Teachers have been here for 15+yrs

No high turnover, teachers have been here for 15+yrs. They don’t keep the kids infront of the TV. Your kids will come home tired from all the learning and playing they do at Arlington Kindergarten. They teach old school-Yes ma’am, no ma’am, prayers before eating, and songs that we grew up with! Potty trained by 3yrs old a MUST and they do NOT tolerate Drama Mamas and their kids. If that’s you, they have no problem dismissing you and your child from the school!

3. Deerwood Academy Preschool

Website: deerwoodacademy.com/

Address: 7575 Centurion Parkway

Contact: 904-807-9550

Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Deerwood Academy achieves a flawless kindergarten readiness rate by focusing heavily on core literacy and classroom routines. They incorporate a highly accredited phonics program to establish strong reading habits early on.

Education aside, the school also features fresh, balanced meals prepared daily by an on-site professional chef. And to keep the environment pristine, they use specialized antimicrobial air filtration systems across every room.

For extra peace of mind, the facility is secured using individualized computerized access codes for parents.

However, their state-funded prekindergarten option enforces a very strict birthdate cutoff for eligibility. Additionally, if you have older kids, the Town Center campus lacks elementary after-school care programs entirely.

Pros

  • Excellent kindergarten readiness results
  • Strong phonics and literacy program
  • Fresh meals prepared by chef
  • Secure computerized parent access

Cons

  • Strict birthdate cutoff for VPK
  • No elementary after-school care

Website: jcds.com

Address: 10063 Baymeadows Road

Contact: 904-641-6644 | Fax: 904-641-1494 | [email protected]

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:05 AM – 3:05 PM

Jacksonville Country Day School combines the Reggio Emilia approach with traditional academics to encourage hands-on learning.

The school focuses on young learners from early childhood through fifth grade, with daily physical education led by specialized coaches.

That focus on the whole child also extends to social-emotional development. We spoke with a local parent whose child attends the program, and they shared that their child’s confidence has skyrocketed through the school’s Conscious Discipline approach.

Teachers build these skills into morning meetings and group projects, while the large outdoor campus gives students plenty of opportunities to learn through nature.

On top of that, they accept state scholarships, which can help eligible families with tuition.

However, full tuition balances are due in early December, creating a high upfront cost. As a private school, they also offer fewer accommodations for some learning disabilities than public schools.

Pros

  • Offers developmental bridge program
  • Accepts state education scholarships
  • Maintains small student class sizes
  • Tailors instruction to individual pace

Cons

  • Full tuition due in December
  • Fewer learning disability accommodations available

5. Argyle Christian Preschool and Kindergarten

Address: 6823 Argyle Forest Blvd.

Contact: 1-904-778-4838 | [email protected]

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Argyle Christian Preschool has approval from the Association of Christian Schools International, reflecting their focus on educational quality.

They aim to nurture children both spiritually and academically, so their curriculum follows a faith-based approach that focuses on the whole child.

That same focus extends to their teachers and families. Educators here hold specialized credentials and have maintained strong classroom stability over the years.

They also view early education as an extension of the home, working closely with parents through open communication. As a result, children can have a smoother transition into elementary school.

But while the school welcomes families from different backgrounds, all students must attend chapel and participate in daily religious activities. They also operate under a state licensure exemption rather than direct government oversight.

Pros

  • Strong faith-based educational approach
  • Experienced, stable teaching staff
  • Close parent-teacher communication
  • Smooth elementary school transition

Cons

  • Mandatory daily religious activities
  • Operates under state licensure exemption
