That’s why swimming lessons make such a difference. With the right instruction, anyone can build essential water skills, improve safety, and gain confidence. The city offers a variety of lessons with flexible scheduling and certified instructors.
If you’ve been putting off learning how to swim, now is the perfect time to do it. These programs make everything easy, safe, and enjoyable. Here are the top places for swimming lessons in Jacksonville that are worth checking out.
How much do swimming lessons cost in Jacksonville?
Swimming lessons in Jacksonville typically cost $30 per half hour or $100 per month, depending on class size, instructor experience, and location. Private lessons are usually more expensive than group classes. Some programs also include discounts for multi-session packages.

Operating Hours:
- Monday: 12:00 PM – 7:00 PM

Swimming Safari Swim School Inc. has been helping kids and adults learn to swim since 2006, so they really know their stuff.
Their small-group classes start at $31 for 30 minutes and include a 3:1 student-to-teacher ratio. This makes them very affordable while still giving your child plenty of attention.
For those who prefer one-on-one coaching, private lessons are available at $60.50 for 20 minutes. It’s slightly pricier but still perfect for students needing extra guidance.
Instructors welcome swimmers of all ages, from babies as young as 3 months. Also, every new family can take a free trial to see if they’re a good fit for long-term swimming lessons.
To make sure your child starts in the right class, the school offers a quick placement quiz. With the continuous enrollment program, your child can start at any time and progress at their own pace.
I was also impressed by their emphasis on giving back through the Hope Floats Foundation. It’s a scholarship in memory of Eric Bass to help unfortunate kids gain water safety skills.
The only thing to keep in mind is that they don’t have indoor heated pools. So lessons can sometimes be affected by the weather.
Only three classes in, and I can see a vast improvement
“My daughter started at Swim Safari just about a month ago and only three classes in and I can see a vast improvement in her comfort ability in the water. Aliyah has been so wonderful with her and she runs out to me after her first lesson and said “I like her!”
I have a one year old as well and she loves to be able to watch her sissy through the glass. They have a really nice setup, the staff is so warm and welcoming, and we love swim days thanks to Swim Safari. 🙏🏽”

The facility is clean, the staff is approachable, and they are nice
“We have enjoyed our swim lessons with Swimming Safari. The facility is clean, the staff is approachable, and they are nice. They are accommodating and do their best to work with a family’s full schedules to get you time slots that work for you. The instructors Anasta and Ms. Kris were my children’s first instructors at Swimming Safari, and I couldn’t have asked for better ones. They teach well and work great with remembering they are kids. The office manager, I can’t recall his name, I will need to come back and update my review to mention him – he was incredible x10. When I called to inquiry, he answered every question thoroughly and with patience. You can tell he takes pride in helping children learn to swim and with a gentle approach. Great face for the company!”

Operating Hours:

My friend tried the swim lessons at Winston Family YMCA, and she loved the whole experience. I love that lessons here are available for all skill levels. So whether your child is just starting out or improving their technique, they have a spot in every class.
I also learned that the YMCA offers year-round programs. This means you don’t have to wait for a new session to start. They also have a placement system to match children to the right class. This helps kids quickly settle into their level and progress at their own pace.
Another bonus? Free trials are available for new families. This makes it easier for anyone to see how their kids would enjoy the lessons before fully committing.
Beyond the pool, I noticed the YMCA has a top-notch 12,000-square-foot Florida Blue Fitness and Wellness Center. They also hold group exercise classes and KidZone for children to play and learn while parents engage in other activities.
The only downside here is that they don’t offer private one-on-one swim lessons. So families needing the extra guidance for their children might need to look elsewhere.
The YMCA is the place to get fit, have fun, and stay healthy
“From the magnificent view of the StJohns river to the heart warming welcoming staff and amazing volunteers the Winston YMCA is the place to get fit, have fun, and stay healthy. A wonderfully designed facility from the indoor pool to the massage chairs, well spaced locker rooms and large weight room this location is the best gym in riverside and downtown! A warm thank to Alexis for her smile and always kind greeting. You guys are amazing!”

The variety of amenities is impressive
“★★★★★ A Fantastic Facility with a Welcoming Atmosphere
The Winston Family YMCA is truly a gem in Jacksonville. From the moment you walk in, you can tell this place is well cared for—the cleanliness is top-notch, and the staff goes above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome. Whether you’re here for a workout, a swim, or just to unwind, there’s something for everyone. The variety of amenities is impressive, from the spacious gym and group fitness classes to the pool and family-friendly programs.
While I absolutely love the experience, I do wish the hours were a bit more extended to accommodate different schedules. That being said, the positive energy, excellent facilities, and sense of community make this YMCA a great place to stay active and connected. Highly recommended!”

4. Turtle Cove Swim Academy

Contact: +1 904 595 6780
Operating Hours:
- Monday to Saturday: 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM

Turtle Cove Swim Academy is a fantastic place to get kids comfortable and confident in the water.
The school offers a free first lesson, which makes it easy to try before committing. All lessons take place in a private, heated indoor pool. So the weather is never an issue.
For those aged 1 to 3 years, private lessons provide an introduction to swimming and stroke techniques. Turtle Cove also offers sibling lesson options, which are super convenient for families with multiple kids.
At $98 for two lessons per week, these private sessions are a bit pricey compared to others. For kids aged 2 to 12, group lessons are available. These are priced at $60 for two lessons per week, which is very affordable for most people.
Turtle Cove also provides detailed invoices for school scholarships or educational reimbursement programs. This makes managing costs easier for some students.
Another feat is that all instructors are certified through Swim University and hold active CPR, AED, and First Aid credentials.
The only downside here is that they don’t accept cash. This can be a hassle for clients who aren’t familiar with electronic payment transfers.
You can tell they truly care about each swimmer’s progress
“The instructors are incredibly engaging and thoughtful in how they work with kids—meeting each child where they are and helping them build skills and confidence in the water. The structure of the classes is clear and consistent, which is especially helpful for kids who thrive on routine or need a little extra support with focus and transitions. You can tell they truly care about each swimmer’s progress. Highly recommend for families looking for a supportive and effective swim program!”

The facility is unlike any other I have seen
“I cannot say enough good things about this facility. The staff is wonderful, very kind and welcoming. My 1 and 3 year old have graduated survival aquatics and are now completing bridge lessons. Our instructor has been incredibly patient and supportive. The facility is unlike any other I have seen, decked out with a heated pool and a game room. They even have STEM tutoring for the older children.
If you’re in need of swimming lessons or just a cool place for your kids to hang, I cannot recommend Swimfun Academy enough!”

5. Jax Mobile Swim School

Address: 2225 St Johns Bluff Rd S, FL 32246
Contact: +1 904 401 3858
Operating Hours:
- Monday to Thursday: 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM
- Friday: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- Saturday: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- Sunday: Closed
Jax Mobile Swim School is one of the few programs that begin teaching swimmers at an incredibly early age. Lessons begin at just 8 weeks old.
The program focuses on a balance between survival skills and traditional swimming techniques. So swimmers build safety awareness while learning proper strokes.
Another great thing about the program is that lessons run year-round in heated facilities. In some cases, they also offer at-home swim lessons, making it easier for families with busy schedules.
Facility lessons here cost $25 per lesson per month, which is considered very affordable compared to many swim schools. They also have an annual registration fee of $50 for new swimmers and $30 for returning students. This is fairly standard in my opinion.
Another interesting fact is that they provide certified lifeguard services for pool events. This is a helpful bonus for families hosting swimming parties.
My only gripe is that they don’t offer free trial lessons like others. This is something many would appreciate before they fully enroll their child in a program.
My kids have shown drastic improvement in their swimming
“Ms. Whitney is everything I could have asked for in a swim instructor for my young children. She’s effective, knowledgeable, patient, and so personable. We had used another instructor previously and didn’t get anywhere with swim skills. My kids have shown drastic improvement in their swimming in just the first few lessons. They also love their time with her and literally argue over who gets to go first! The peace of mind I have now knowing my babies have life saving water skills is priceless, thank you so much Miss Whitney!”

We saw a difference within weeks
“We love Ms. Whitney!!! We started last spring with her and have been back ever since. Our little ones attended a different swim school previously and did not have success after months of lessons. Once we started with Whitney, we saw a difference within weeks! She’s amazing with the kids and truly teaches them technique. Our two kids are now swimming all over the pool and confident in the water!”
