We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.
  • Baking Schedules: We looked for kitchens that fry fresh batches overnight or directly on demand so you always get a warm bite.
  • Dietary Safety: We checked exactly how these bakeries handle allergens like eggs and dairy to help sensitive eaters decide.
  • Morning Logistics: A great breakfast doesn’t help if you get stuck in a long queue before work. We weighed drive-thru access, delivery options, and early opening hours to see which shops respect your commute.
  • Savory Alternatives: Sometimes half the family wants sugar and the rest need a solid meal. We noted which shops serve hearty kolaches or breakfast sandwiches to satisfy a split crowd.
  • Value and Rewards: We looked into loyalty programs and bulk catering prices to see who offers the best value.

The best donut shop in Jacksonville can change your entire weekend routine. The local dessert scene is bursting with incredible bakeries.

You can find everything from classic cinnamon rings to over-the-top brioche creations stuffed with rich custard. Honestly, our team loves hunting down these hidden gems when our sweet tooth kicks in.

This guide highlights the top spots across the city that serve up serious sugar cravings. Grab a coffee, clear your schedule, and get ready to discover your new favorite local bakery!

1. Shipley Do-Nuts

shipley-do-nuts

Website: shipleydonuts.com/locations/12667-beach-boulevard
Address: 12667 Beach Blvd #101
Contact: (904) 551-1629
Schedule: Monday-Sunday, 5:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Commuters on Beach Boulevard often struggle to find a hot meal before sunrise. That wait ends at Shipley Do-Nuts, a bakery that opens at 5:00 AM and serves genuinely hot glazed treats.

At the counter, you’ll notice how they hand-cut their yeast dough instead of using commercial extruders, which creates a much lighter texture.

Their menu goes beyond sugar rings by wrapping proprietary bold sausage, eggs, and cheese into authentic savory kolaches.

With that hearty option next to their donut-infused lattes, their streamlined catering packages can easily feed an office with mixed tastes.

Plus, they mix their strawberry jellies in-house for a fresher fruit hit.

The catch is that their specialty espresso program defaults strictly to whole milk. Anyone needing oat or almond milk will have to stick to plain black coffee.

Pros

  • Opens early at 5:00 AM daily
  • Light yeast donuts made with hand-cut dough
  • Savory kolaches with sausage, eggs, and cheese
  • In-house strawberry jellies for fresher flavor

Cons

  • No plant-based milk alternatives

2. The Donut Shoppe

Website: thedonutshoppejax.com
Address: 1535 University Blvd N
Contact: 904-743-1844 | [email protected]
Schedule: Monday-Sunday, 5:00 AM – 1:00 PM

The Donut Shoppe offers a taste of tradition, with bakers starting their shifts at 10 every night to prepare fresh donuts for the morning crowd.

They keep things traditional by cutting, frying, and glazing each batch by hand. Then, they use their own chocolate coatings instead of wholesale syrups.

During our interview, a local homeowner shared that they regularly enjoy the shop’s iconic “Ugly” apple fritter, praising its crispy outside and gooey center over fancier modern pastries.

For special occasions, customers can order a massive 10-inch custom donut cake with just one day’s notice. Plus, the 20 varieties give families plenty of choices.

However, they only accept cash or business checks, so customers can’t pay electronically.

Additionally, popular flavors sell out quickly, making early visits the best option.

Pros

  • Fresh donuts prepared daily before dawn
  • Hand-cut, fried, and glazed donuts
  • Famous apple fritter with crispy edges
  • Custom 10-inch donut cakes available

Cons

  • Strictly cash or business check only
  • Popular flavors sell out quickly

Their donuts are the best ones

Their donuts are the best ones you will ever put in your mouth!  They’re absolutely incredible, fresh and reasonably priced. You will need to go early because they sell out fast.  Once you go here, all others just won’t compare. It’s the best donut shop in the entire state and probably in the entire country!! The staff is amazing, too! 🍩💖

I love that it’s always fresh and not too heavy on toppings or sweetness

Best donut shop in Jacksonville! I love that it’s always fresh and not too heavy on toppings or sweetness. It’s just the right amount of ingredients. Make sure to bring cash. They’re cash only but do have an atm for your convenience. One dozen is $12.50.

3. Krispy Kreme

Website: site.krispykreme.com/fl/jacksonville/11117-san-jose-blvd
Address: 11117 San Jose Blvd
Contact: (904) 262-4922
Schedule: Sunday-Thursday, 6:00 AM – 10:00 PM | Friday-Saturday, 6:00 AM – 11:00 PM

Parents running late for a school drop-off rarely have 20 minutes to spare standing inside a bakery line.

A dedicated drive-thru window makes Krispy Kreme an incredibly easy choice for grabbing sweets without unbuckling the kids.

Their famous HotLight hours run twice a day, giving you a reliable window to grab Original Glazed rings fresh off the waterfall.

Or you can build your own custom dozen from scratch, making it easy to mix seasonal releases with hand-rolled cinnamon rolls for office meetings.

For a smaller snack, they sell bite-sized Doughnut Dots and 16-count mini packs in portable cups.

And with four locations across the city, finding a convenient stop is straightforward.

Just be aware that they sell no savory food, so you’ll need to stop elsewhere for eggs or meat.

Pros

  • Dedicated daily drive-thru window
  • Famous HotLight hours run twice a day
  • Catering services for large events
  • Multiple branch locations citywide

Cons

  • Zero savory breakfast food available

Customer Reviews

They are so good

Kristy Kreme is my favorite donut shop.  Just got a dozen of the hot donuts now the other day.  They are so good.  Hard to stop eating.  Just an update: recently went here with my family and went inside this time.  I’m calling it a fluke.  I’ll give them another shot.

There is no better donut shop than Krispy Kreme

There is no better donut shop than Krispy Kreme. I can and have in the past had donuts from the other donuts shop sat on my desk for everyone to enjoy, and I don’t even eat one. But, if Krispy Kreme donuts are anywhere near me, I will eat 2 or 3 before the end of the work day. They are just that good!

My favorites are the regular glazed donuts, the glazed donuts with chocolate frosting on them and their eclair donuts.

4. Duck Donuts

duck-donuts

Website: duckdonuts.com/menu/13820-old-st-augustine-rd-141-jacksonville-fl-32258
Address: 13820 Old St. Augustine Rd #141
Contact: (904) 438-5665
Schedule: Monday-Wednesday, 6:00 AM – 12:00 PM | Thursday-Friday, 6:00 AM – 7:00 PM | Saturday, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM | Sunday, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM

While many standard coffee spots hand you a cold pastry from a glass case, the crew at Duck Donuts fries your vanilla cake base the moment you pay.

That made-to-order approach gives you full control over the design, letting you choose your own coatings, bacon crumbles, and signature drizzles.

Their menu runs all day smoothly, so you can grab a savory breakfast sandwich at six in the morning or an ice cream treat in the afternoon.

If you host local parties, their catering team will even coordinate the frosting colors to match your exact theme.

The main flaw is their harsh rewards program, which wipes out your earned sprinkles after just 30 days of inactivity.

Pros

  • Made-to-order warm preparation
  • Interactive topping customization
  • Serves savory sandwiches and ice cream
  • Customized party catering available

Cons

  • Loyalty points expire in thirty days
  • Third-party delivery apps block rewards

Customer Reviews

10/10 experience overall!

This is the cutest donut shop I’ve ever seen! Prices are fair and quality is exceptional. I ordered a half dozen and waited about five minutes for my donuts to be made fresh. You can tell the owner cares and she was a great conversationalist. 10/10 experience overall!

Highly recommend checking this place out

We found this donut shop on Christmas Eve. It was festive with decorations and music. The guy who waited on us was very friendly and the young girl who made our donuts did a great job! If you’re a die hard Jeep owner this is your place! They have lots of motif from ducks for your jeep to T-shirt’s. Highly recommend checking this place out.

5. Sweet Theory Baking Co.

sweet-theory-baking-co

Website: sweettheorybakingco.com
Address: 1243 King Street
Contact: 904.387.1001 | [email protected]
Schedule: Tuesday-Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM | Saturday, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Families managing severe food allergies usually have to avoid conventional cake shops entirely due to high cross-contact risks.

Fortunately, Sweet Theory Baking Co. provides a remarkably safe environment by operating a kitchen completely free from eggs, dairy, and peanuts.

They hand-cut their yeast-raised batches from scratch every morning, ensuring an artisanal texture that pre-mixed dough simply can’t replicate.

To maintain quality, their bakers use exclusively organic fruit glazes and never bake with soy flour or cheap shortening.

They even run dedicated gluten-free protocols, with separate washing stations and ovens, to prevent airborne contamination.

Plus, they enforce a strict zero day-old policy, meaning they bake every rotating flavor in the case just hours before.

Sadly, they frequently sell out of popular items well before their scheduled afternoon closing.

Pros

  • Completely egg-, dairy-, and peanut-free
  • Strictly organic fruit glazes
  • Run dedicated gluten-free protocols
  • Zero day-old inventory policy

Cons

  • Frequent early afternoon sellouts

The donuts are so soft and flavorful

I’ve been looking for a gourmet donut shop in JAX for so long and finally found one. It’s crazy good. The donuts are so soft and flavorful and they have really good flavors. We had to get 6 because we couldn’t decide. Every day they have new flavors as well which is a plus. When we went we got French toast, snicker doodle, stretch pants (the best), maple bacon, and the homer.

It was a perfect crispy on the outside, pillowy soft on the inside, a delicious bite

This place was an accidental find and I can’t wait to go back. We’re not gluten free but my toddler picked a gluten free raspberry chocolate cupcake and raved the whole ride home about how good it was. She dripped her frosting and still ate the rest of the cake part without it. I had a raspberry jasmine I want to say twist. My GOSH! I’ve eaten a lot of donuts in my life. NONE were better than this. It was a  prefect crispy on the outside, pillowy soft on the inside delicious bite.
